This month Four-Wheel Drive Queensland’s Fraser Island K’gari Clean-Up Committee formally announced the 21st annual Beach Clean-Up of K’gari will be held across the weekend of 20-23rd May, 2022.
This is 4WD QLD’s annual flagship environmental event, and has always been very well supported by our affiliate clubs across Queensland. We hope to see as many of you as possible joining us so we can again make a huge impact on the quantity of debris on the beautiful beaches of K’gari. This year we removed another 6.2 tonnes for debris, the vast number is always a shock, in anyone’s language.
We are delighted to announce we will be continuing with our major collaborators. The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, a relationship which continues to grow and be enhanced as we build our relationship with the individuals we interact with. We have also invited our friends, The Butchulla Aboriginal Corporation to be more involved as we move forward into the future, by requesting their further participation on various levels. The Tangaroa Blue and FICU coordinator are currently negotiating to confirm an ongoing partnership between 4WD QLD and themselves.
Also delighted to announce that discussion around the return of The Tangaroa Blue Foundation and a possible long-term collaboration are proceeding well.
Event sponsor, Cathedrals on Fraser, will again be the location for the “Volunteers’ Thank You” evening on Sunday 22nd with dinner being catered this time by Michael Patch and his team, A Camp Oven Experience.
Cathedrals on Fraser managers are again offering any volunteers a 20% discount on all accommodation options should they choose to book over-the-phone or online using the discount code ‘CLEANUP’. This offer is valid for stays between 13/05/22 and 29/05/22.
The FICU Committee are constantly working in the background to add all necessary information to the FICU website www.ficu.org.au and are currently receiving 15-20 new registrations for the event each day.
We are very much looking forward to seeing all comers next May,
Your FICU2022 Committee
