Clean Up Australia Day 2013 – Beerburrum Forrest (Glasshouse)
News - CARE News
Sunday, 03 March 2013 20:46

Four Wheel Drive Queensland clubs: Caloundra City 4WD Club; North Coast 4X4 Club, Moreton Districts Off Road Club and Sunshine Coast Jeep Club members attended the Clean Up Australia Event at Beerburrum Forest (Glasshouse) today.

These members assisted individual 4WDers and other interested members of community at the event.

Other organisations at the event included representatives from the: Department of Environment and Heritage Protection’s Littering and Illegal dumping unit, including the Department’s Minister Andrew Powell MP; QPWS/NPRSR Park Rangers; members from Crime Stoppers; and employees of HQ Plantations.

Crime Stoppers in Queensland works closely with HQ Plantations in tackling illegal dumping and other issues in this area.

Due to the amount of extended rain in the area the event was scaled back in order to reduce risk to the participants and to ensure that tracks were not damaged as part of the event. There had been planned 4WD areas that would have been targeted, had the conditions been more favorable.

HQ Plantations provided heavy machinery assets. This allowed the teams to remove a total of 10 Tonnes of illegally dumped rubbish from a 350 metre track. This was just one small problem area of the estate managed by HQ Plantations.

After the volunteers completed their shifts, they were treated to a sausage sizzle from the local Lions club.

Considering the amount of rain around, we are very pleased with the amount of work completed in such a short amount of time.

Events like these are critical to ensure strong relationships are built between the land managers and interested users such as the four wheel driving community and we look forward in supporting these organisers in future events.

4WD Qld reminder about track damage during very wet conditions
News - CARE News
Monday, 25 February 2013 11:47

4WD Qld are aware of trips conducted in areas after heavy rainfall and very wet conditions by groups not affiliated with 4WD Qld.

We would like to make it clear that 4WD Qld in no way condones such activities by anyone.

4WD Qld affiliated clubs are very environmentally aware and will cancel activities when conditions would lead to track damage.

4WD Qld works closely with the department of National Parks, Recreation, Sport and Racing (NPRSR) promoting ethical four wheel driving. 4WD Qld encourages anyone who observes inappropriate behaviour in a national park or forest to contact the local park office.

Four Wheel Drive Queensland (4WD Qld) was formed in 1976 in an effort to unite the voice of Four Wheel Drivers in promoting recreational Four Wheel Driving.

4WD Qld encourages all offroading groups to read the 4WD Code of Ethics.
